On Tuesday my local paper had an article indicating that one of the organizations associated with President Obama was having a “listening” event.  Since it was going to be held within a mile of my home, I arranged to go with this quote in mind: Keep your friends close, Keep your enemies closer. I really wanted to get an idea of the strategy that the administration would be pursuing over the next year or so, and I thought that I would hear it.

Instead, I found out that team Obama is putting together a paid framework of community organizers in each state. These organizers will recruit volunteers and build a structure of followers down to the precinct level. While the Obama camp is calling this a grass roots movement, it cannot be considered to be truly grass roots as it is being watered heavily from the top. In Washington State, the structure is a State Director, a Communication Director and 4 Field Directors (one in each congressional district), all of whom are paid. They note with pride that this is the first administration in history that has gone to such lengths to create and maintain such a support network. The mission of each precinct level cell is to:

Enact the policy aims of the administration by contacting legislative representatives: this year health care reform, education, and climate and energy reform.
Perpetuate and grow each cell, define a structure.
Indoctrinate the citizenry, go into the community, hold events, and be a presence espousing the ideals of the administration.
Network and find experts who can help the cell or the larger organization with various agenda points or resources.
Get President Obama re-elected in 2012. 

According to the speaker, they will have a plan in place for each state very soon. I believe that this may be the administration’s covert response to the April 15 Tea Parties. Everyone in their Washington State organization had just been hired.

In the face of this threat, conservatives have got be willing to speak about their views with others, stay in contact with congress, and to find common ground with each other. If we don’t reach out, we do a disservice to those without much understanding of the importance of politics. This may leave them vulnerable to the mechanizations of an Obama precinct cell. They don’t actually call them that, but I thought it was rather apt considering how terrorized I have been since the out of control spending began.
